The U.S. Mission to Russia extended the validity of payments (known as the MRV fee) until September 30, 2022, to allow all applicants who were unable to schedule a visa appointment as a result of the suspension of routine consular operations an opportunity to schedule and/or attend a visa appointment with the already paid fee.

Global epidemiological situation – Updates as of Jan 12, 2021

Following two weeks of low reporting, likely due to the year-end holiday period, the overall upward trend seen in earlier weeks has resumed, with just under 5 million new cases reported last week globally. The number of new deaths has also shown a similar trend, with over 85 000 reported last week, an 11% increase. All regions apart from South-East Asia showed an increase in new cases, with the Western Pacific, Africa and the Americas reporting increases of over 30%. The Region of the Americas accounted for 51% of all new cases and 45% of all new deaths globally in the past week. The European Region had a lower increase in new cases (10%), however still accounts for over a third of new cases globally. In South-East Asia, the decline in new cases and new deaths seen since the end of November 2020 continues.

The United Kingdom reported a new strain of coronavirus. The Government explained that it is a mutation of a known COVID-19. This new mutation is very contagious and expands much faster.

Within 24 hours a record number of British citizens got infected (almost 36,000 positive cases detected). The Government declared, that this new strain of coronavirus circulating across some parts of the UK had run out of control. As a result, The UK Government announced a strong national lockdown. New restrictions were applied to London and south of England where 18 millions of people live. People must stay at home. Gyms, malls, museums and cinemas are also required to close.
